Tumblr Tumbles Without Pornography

In 2013, Tumbler sold for 1.1 billion (The Washington Post). TechCrunch published that Tumblr’s site was visited more than Facebook by youth at the time it was acquired.

The same TechCrunch article, titled “Tumblr is Not What you Think”, provided that pornography accounted for some of the most popular content on the site.

Forbes reported that Apple eventually banned Tumblr from it’s app store because of the content. Relatedly, Tumblr decided to ban adult content from the site, pending a few exceptions, in 2018.

August 12, 2019 – after the ban – is the date that The Washington Post informed that Tumblr sold for a meager $3 million. The same article claims that the 2018 ban on pornography alienated a lot of the site’s users.
