Forgot a Guitar Pick and the Keyboard Broke – Clark DiLullo

What has genealogy possibly associated with the mafia, spacey tendencies, the joker’s hair, and pure imagination?

Successful media corporations have two things: 1. strong production, and 2. extraordinary talent. This publication has neither. (Also, it’s not incorporated and, therefore, not protected financially from liability). However, the answer to the riddle is arguably the best talent we’ve published so far – musician and artist Clark DiLullo, @thelectriclily.

NinthandSuperior‘s friend Clark is now back to provide an update on his pursuit of fame. Since we last spoke with Clark, he’s moved to the west coast and currently resides in Seattle. He explained in the first interview that his focus was on finishing a demo record “Don’t Meet Your Heroes”. One year later – he’s bestowed us with a tease for the demo’s release:

Clark also shared his video for “I’d Die for you”, not to be confused with The Weeknd’s “Die for You”:

There you go folks, Harry Potter. Clark is 30.

Thank you for sitting down with us again, Clark, it’s always a pleasure! Never stop doing what you do – Rock and Roll buddy, Rock and Roll…

1.  Any new musical equipment?

There’s a guitar center literally next door to me. I walked one day and fell in love with a gorgeous plum black Ibanez electric that was on sale. I don’t know much about guitars but I went back a couple hours later to buy it and it was gone.

2.  So you’ve moved to the west coast. Has your style been influenced yet?

I think my style will always be Midwest kid from Akron.

3.  Favorite parts of Seattle?

Too soon for favorites really but I just saw my first wild seal at Discovery park so there and Golden Gardens, and I’ve been to a cool venue called Neumos.

4.  Any new shows yet?

Game of Thrones? Ha no none.  I’ll probably reach the point where I break again and email a bunch of venues and start freaking out when I actually get a gig. For now I’m working on a new project called “Hidden Gems.” It’s the name of my second demo. I just want to focus on that for a while, and practice guitar.

5.  Funniest story from a show so far

My first set playing guitar I forgot the pick in my bag in the back of the venue. So I told them I forgot my pick and jumped off stage towards them and ran to the back to get it. That was after my keyboard stopped working during a solo.

6.  Is the Seattle Chipotle an different tho?

No, still an inspirational band of misfits.

7.  Spirit animal?

Either a falcon or a bobcat or Adam Sandler.

8.  Best joke

My life… Situational comedy is my favorite. Dave Chappelle is probably my favorite comedian, but I really enjoyed Sebastien Maniscalco’s take on Chipotle.

9.  Any new side hustles?

Hm I wrote a thirty minute stand up set I”ll probably release soon, I’ve been writing a sci fi fantasy book, a comedy skater/surfer/stoner movie script, and recently thought up an interesting concept for a horror movie I’ll eventually get to.

10.  What does C-train mean?

I’m a gemini. He was my alter ego, my dark side and rapper alias, but he’s evolved to something new. C train is retired. I’m Electric Lily now.

11.  Musical influences

The Black Keys, Jack White, Beach House, Nirvana, Pink Floyd, Zeppelin, Beatles, Bob Marley, pretty much all classic rock.

12.  Favorite sounds for beats

Depends on the genre. My next demo is a lot of very different sounding songs, like one song is just three tracks with a piano and violin and vocals, and another has heavy synths bass and drums..but I think they will all work together. I’d love to re record everything with all real instruments some day.

13.  Has the dream changed?  Has it come true?

I’m taking a more sustainable approach, because I was taking myself too seriously and it was destructive. In ways it already has come true. I’m grateful for life, every gig, every one who has gone to a show or given me positive feedback or constructive criticism, and the innate passion and ability to create. The dream is to eventually create for a living and help others create their own visions. I don’t see myself ever stopping writing..

14.  What are the titles of your first songs if your band name is Da Chunky Boys (and its just you in the band)

Chunky Baby, We want the Chunk, Mo Chunky mo problems

15.  Name of your hypothetical podcast and what you talk about

Is this a hint at our comedy podcast? Maybe just a podcast of body sounds? You know farts, burps, chewing, knuckles cracking. Stuff like that.
